What is Goldenmilk?
Goldenmilk is a traditional Ayurvedic drink that combines turmeric, black pepper, and other spices like ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom, mixed together in warm milk. When combined, the spices in goldenmilk make for a synergistic combination of superfoods. It gets its name from the beautiful golden colour the key ingredient, turmeric, gives the drink.
We took inspiration from the traditional Indian drink and added cacao powder for added heart health and flavour. Mixed with milk or your favourite milk alternative, our goldenmilk elixir mix has a warm, rich, semi-sweet flavour that's perfect for cold Winter evenings.
Why turmeric?
Turmeric has traditionally been used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine for thousands of years to treat inflammation, digestive issues, liver problems, and skin diseases. Modern research has found that turmeric's active compound curcumin can
- act as a powerful antioxidant.
- lower the levels of enzymes that cause inflammation
- help prevent platelets from forming blood clots
- reduce symptoms of indigestion
Why black pepper?
Black pepper contains the active compound piperine, which has been shown to boost curcumin bio-availability. By consuming turmeric and black pepper, absorption is increased and curcumin's powerful health properties are maximized.
And the rest?
Ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom aren't just for flavour. They pack a powerful health punch of their own. All three have been found to support digestion. Additionally, ginger and cinnamon can help lower blood sugar levels. Cacao, found in our Goldenmilk Chocolate Bar and Elixir Mix, is an antioxidant by its own right, while cocoa butter and coconut oil are healthy fats that help with nutrient absorption.
And did you know? Our Goldenmilk products are vegan and only contain a small amount of coconut sugar. They are the perfect combination of indulgent and healthy. Yummy!
